Hugh Arklie, ED of the Thomas Sill Foundation, during his presentation to our YIP group
Carman Collegiate’s Youth in Philanthropy group has taken a huge step forward. The Thomas Sill Foundation has committed to provide $3,500 per year for the next 3 years to our local YIP group. This agreement provides $2,500 for YIP to grant in the Carman area and $1,000 for expenses and contribution to a new CAF endowment fund to be set up specifically for YIP grants. As part of this commitment, the Carman Area Foundation has also agreed to provide $3,500 for a further three years following the Thomas Sill contributions.
This six year support totaling over $20,000 provides further support to the great initiative already shown by these forward-thinking high school students who have been raising money with school movie nights to grant to good causes. Last year, these efforts provided $1,300 in grants to our community. Two of these grants, in partnership with the Carman Area Foundation, provided support to the Carman Hospital Palliative Care to buy a cabinet to warm blankets and to the Child and Family Services Foundation to provide assistance for underprivileged kids to attend summer camp. They also granted money to the Town for ongoing maintenance of the skating rink at Ryall Park.
Congratulations to this fine group of young people who are making sure that the spirit of philanthropy lives on in our community!
