Carman Area Foundation organizes discussion on Planned Giving

CARMAN – November 23, 2011 –

Financial planners, bankers, lawyers and accountants from our community recently got together over a hearty breakfast cooked and served by the Board members of the Carman Area Foundation.  After the breakfast, everyone participated in a lively discussion led by Brent VanKoughnet, Chair of the Foundation.

Brent said “The theme of the breakfast was around Planned Giving for the entire community. Our hope is that working with professional advisors and other community charities we can encourage and support planned giving in a way that serves the community well beyond what the Foundation could do on its own. In particular the technical support of our local financial professionals can help us communicate some of the significant tax savings that a well thought out planed gift can create”.  Craig Johnston, who is leading CAF’s initiative in Planned Giving, said that advisors agreed on the value of getting legal, accounting and investment professionals together in helping people plan gifts to their favourite charities in a way that maximizes the value of the gift without significantly diminishing the value left to family.

Brent fielded good ideas from the professionals.  “We are enthusiastic about the ideas that surfaced here this morning, and look forward to working with advisors and other charitable organizations to get these ideas into action in the community.”
